San Agustín Church

The conventual church, founded by the 4th Count of Ureña, began to be built in the late 16th century and continued into the next. Jerónimo Balbás created the main altarpiece which holds the image of Our Lady of Hope by Remesal. The statue of a pregnant Virgin Mary is also noteworthy.

The architecture of this church is one of the most remarkable in the city. It is the only Jesuit-style church in Osuna, from the School started by Vignola in Rome when he built the Church of Gesú. The portal consists of a semi-circular arch between embedded columns topped with a niche.

The temple has one nave with adjoined side chapels. The nave is covered by a barrel vault with lunettes decorated with Serlian-themed plasterwork. Proscenium arches are found throughout the church and, in particular in the chapels, covered by stucco reliefs with the effigies of martyrs, apostles, prophets and cherubs holding up inscriptions from the litanies.
