This industrial complex specialises in salt extraction for brine production. To that end, it has two saltwater wells.
Valcargado is the living history of salt, maintained by traditional salt harvesters in the Utrera countryside. This area was a key supplier of salt to Roman cities such as Salpensa and Siarum. The harvesting of salt from Valcargado’s saltwater has survived to our days in the form of natural brine and different types and varieties of top quality salt, including “fleur de sel” and natural spring salt. Centuries of history have transformed Valcargado Salt Mine into a unique landscape with high cultural and natural value, a source of life and knowledge on the ancient use of salt.
A guided walking tour of the natural and cultural values of salt mines that includes a tasting of salt and related products. A visit to the salt production, brine management and salt harvesting activities may be added depending on the season.
