Forja Lebrija is an artisan workshop in Lebrija declared an Andalusian place of artisanal interest by the Andalusian administration. Its founder, Juan José Gómez Delgado, has been plying his trade since 1986. He was named Master Craftsman on 28 December 2015 by the Regional Minister of Employment, Business and Trade of the Andalusian Government. He is a disciple of the Australian architect and designer Donald Gray (Rafael Manzano Martos Classical Architecture and Monument Restoration Award 2015). He focuses on creating and restoring traditional ironwork, designs and manufactures highly innovative, exclusive works for events, trophies, corporate gifts and urban sculpture that bring added value.

His products are handcrafted using appropriate production techniques and quality materials. His works stand out for their quality finish, perfection, artistic richness and innovative approach. As a result, on 18 January 2017, the Andalusian Regional Government granted him the use of the “Andalusian Craftsmanship Quality” mark in all traditional ironwork forged in his workshop (gates, balconies, railings and grilles).

Description of the tour

Following the description of the manufacturing process, a demonstration of the process will take place: heating the iron with bellows until it reaches the correct temperature for forging with hammer and anvil. The iron changes colour during the heating process. It has a reddish colour when it is first placed in the embers in the forge. The iron has reached the ideal temperature for working when it turns yellow.

There are also demonstrations on how to tie a knot with iron and make various types of volutes (threads on the tip of an iron). Finally, visitors are given a small gift made at the forge.
