Cascadas del Hueznar

Seville enchants

This small shrine on the outskirts of the town was established in the 15th century by a Franciscan community; however, there is very little data available. Given its location on the outskirts, the Chapel was used as a charity hospital in 1601 during an epidemic.

The Hospital de los Santos was built in the 15th century in Gothic-Mudejar style. In the past, its referred to a charity hospital and lodging for pilgrims. Highlights include the pointed arcade supported by square columns with reduced or chamfered arrises up to approximately 1.70 m high.

Formerly the chapel of Santa Maria de la Asuncion and a hospital for pilgrims, it is believed to have been built in the early 16th century. It was located within the old wall that surrounded Gerena. The chapel is a Mudejar-style building with a single nave with a trough roof, a chancel with a hemispherical dome and a choir at the end. It is dedicated to the Hermandad de la Soledad.

This temple, opened in March 1769, was the first building constructed in this village. Due to the epidemic of “Tercianas” or malaria, the church was used as a hospital for men and renamed “Juan Bautista Alvitt”.

It is a typical baroque church built during Pablo de Olavide’s repopulation initiative under King Carlos III.

This chapel is located in what is now a central street of our town, which was formerly known as Calle de San Benito.
