Marchena’s Holy Week is famous for its many traditions. The images, accoutrement and participation of the Confraternities give the Holy Week a powerful appeal.
The event as a whole has extraordinary artistic value. The sculptures and long-standing rituals and traditions embody an amazing ethnographic heritage. The Judgment of Christ in the Plaza de Arriba, the Sayings of Jesus from the Cross, the rich tradition of a unique genre of saetas, such “cuartas”, “quintas” and “moleeras” and the iconography of Our Lady of Solitude embody the originality of Marchena.
This Festival was declared an event of tourist interest in 2001.
