Starting as a modest but solid project, in 1998 Colonias de Galeón, S.L. began operating with the sole aim of supporting those who wish to demonstrate that it is possible to make red and white wines in Andalusia in line with the latest trends. To this end, they have located the vineyard in Cazalla de la Sierra in the heart of the Sierra Norte Natural Park in Seville, a region that was the main exporter of wine to America during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
They produce wines with our own grapes and with each variety separately. The winery has all the latest features necessary to produce quality organic wines.
For the tour, a meeting point has been established at the entrance to Cazalla de la Sierra. The group goes to one of the vineyards in the Colonias de Galeón Estate, where they take a guided tour of the vineyard on which they are shown the different varieties of so-called "noble" vines planted: Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, etc. and observe how they are trained on trellises with single cordon pruning. The type of slate soil that gives the wine its great personality and the slopes, sun exposure and altitude that give it its unique character will be highlighted.
Next, an explanation is given of the various treatments and tasks required -hand pruning, leaf selection, thinning, etc.- to obtain a low production per vine and, as a result, high quality grapes. A description is also given of the process followed by the grape after its arrival at the winery and the different tasks required to obtain the various high-quality wines.
Visitors will also see the different production methods used for white and red grapes, as well as the different selection and aging processes for obtaining young or vintage wines. The tour ends with a wine tasting session.
