Fuente de Alconchel

The fountain is located, on Alconchel Street, at the edge of the town of Mairena del Alcor, towards Viso del Alcor. Situated on an old drover’s road, it was once used as a resting place for cattle and a camping site. It was quite popular now during the Fair.

While women used to wash clothes and collect water from this fountain, men took the cattle to drink water. The water carrier filled their earthenware jars and children bathed in the nearby stream. The ensemble consists of the fountain with a basin that can be accessed by a small staircase. On the front are seven spouts and a 29-metre long, rectangular trough. This area became one of the most popular and frequented places in Mairena once it was developed.
