Seville enchants

This is the oldest church in the town. It is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest. It was built in the Mudéjar-Gothic style in the late 13th century with baroque additions. The church consists of a nave and two aisles covered by a wooden coffered ceiling. The polygonal chancel with a vaulted ceiling occupies the apse.

The origin of the San Sebastián Church is unclear, although it was already mentioned in 1498.

The temple, which has a basilica plan, was built in the 16th century according to the design of the Genoese architect Vicente Boyo.

It consists of one nave and two aisles, as well as side chapels. Worthy of note are the pulpit, the high altar and the portals.

This is an 18th century chapel, built around 1716, on the site of an earlier church. It is built in a simple Sevillian baroque style with a single nave with a hemispherical dome, main altarpiece, choir-belfry and access to the sacristy and brotherhood house from the nave itself.

It has a simple two-section baroque belfry crowning the main façade (Restored in 2011).

The Aldea de la Divina Pastora, commonly known as “Los Pajares”, is located about 2 km from Cantillana, towards Villaverde del Río. The Chapel of the Divine Shepherdess stands here.

The Clock Tower, located on the commonly called “Cuesta del Reloj”, is a 12th-century tower that was used as a military fortress, and was part of the old wall that surrounded this area. It was already called the “Torre del Reloj” in the 18th century as it had a sundial on the south side. The main façade is emblazoned with the coat of arms of the Counts of Cantillana, Vicentelos de Leca.

The single-nave church of Our Father Jesus the Nazarene was built in the late 20th century. It has galleries in the side and back of the upper level supported by tall columns.

The St John Baptist Church is notable for its sheer size, robustness and beauty. It is located in the highest part of the village, on a hill that dominates a vast plain. A place of great strategic importance that has been inhabited since ancient times. This has been a defining element for the town.
