Seville enchants

The building with a robust architecture was completed in 1893. It is located in the Plaza de España or del Salón, as it is commonly known. The brick façade has windows on its two floors and three centred balconies with stonework balustrades.

This monumental site in Olivares was made possible by the generosity of the first Counts of Olivares, a cadet branch of the Ducal House of Medina Sidonia that settled in this area of the Aljarafe. The lands have belonged to the powerful Guzmán family since the Middle Ages.

The Town Hall, located in the Plaza de España, and commonly known as the Plaza del Reloj, is the anteroom of a splendid baroque building. It was built around 1761 in the Andalusian baroque-style. The angle at the left side of the bell tower breaks the horizontal thrust of the building.

The Town Hall was built in 1533 over the Puerta de Teba arch.

The whitewashed walls are graced by a double row of balconies. Worthy of note is an arcade supported on embedded double columns. Next to arcade are the remains of a former mirador overlooking the Plaza. Two, long and wide balconies with pink carved stipites support the screws that go into the wall.

The Lisbon earthquake destroyed the old town hall. In 1763, it was decided to appoint two architects to build a new building. The project submitted to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts by the local master-builder Alonso Ruiz Florindo was rejected owing to its baroque style. The design that was ultimately accepted was by Ventura Rodríguez, the Court’s chief architect.

The Hacienda de Santa Ana, built on the site of a modest farmhouse, has the typical architecture of the Aljarafe Alto estates in the province of Seville. Located in Fuente Street, this is the most significant architectural and heritage building in Tomares. It is now the Town Hall. It also serves as the hub for Tomares’ social and cultural life.
