Feria

Seville, beautiful and diverse

This contest takes place in Marchena in the early spring. Saetas have a long history and tradition in this town.

In spring, flamenco music is delivered through the saeta. The saeta is an “a capella” form of singing performed by amateur and professional flamenco singers.

During its more than 20-year history, the “El Polvorón” flamenco festival has enlivened the summer nights with excellent flamenco performances. The winner of the festival receives the “Gold Polvorón” award.

In the weeks leading up to the festival, the flamenco “peñas”, local flamenco enthusiast clubs, organise numerous events in which local artists perform.

The “Madrugá Flamenca” is organized by the City Council’s Culture Department and the County Council as part of the Cotton Festival. The event has a long tradition extending back to the year 1994.

It takes place in late September in the municipal fairground with numerous “cante jondo” artists, flamenco guitarist and dancers perform during the event.

Since 1987, it is customary in Lent to celebrate the Exaltation of the Saeta in El Viso. This event is part of the cultural activities that the Town Council organises to promote music and traditions typical of the Holy Week.

This event has many years of history in the Sevillian town of Carmona. It is held in the month of September, on the occasion of the Patron Saint Festivities of Virgen de Gracia.

Organised by the El Rubio Town Hall, this flamenco festival brings together artists from all new flamenco styles and genres, with performances of “cante jondo” singing, flamenco dances and classical guitar.

The “Memorial Pepita Caballero” Cultural Week is organised each year in November by the   “Amigos de la Guitarra” Association in Carmona. It relies on the sponsorship of different institutions, including the Seville County Council.
